Children’s House Montessori of Cornwall (CHM), offers a Toddler program, “The Nook” for children from 18 months to 36 months and a Primary Program for children 3 years to 6 years. CHM is a learning community where children are inspired to realize their academic, personal, and social potential to become global citizens.
Our Toddler Program offers a half day and a full day program. Our half day consists of a morning (8:45-11:45am) and an afternoon session (12:00-3:00pm). Our full day is from 8:45am-3:00pm.
Our Primary Program offershalf(8:45-11:45am) andfullday programs (8:45am-3:00pm).
Our sister school, Montgomery Montessori School is in Montgomery, NY which offers a Primary, Elementary, Intermediate and a Secondary Program for children from approximately 3 years old to 17 years old. We accept applications throughout the year, please feel free to contact us to begin your journey into the Montessori experience.
Before and Aftercare
Before Care - 7:20am-8:45am - $10/day/child Aftercare- 3:00pm-6:00pm - $20/day/child.

The Nook - 18-36 months
TODDLER PROGRAM- In a Montessori environment, your toddler will be with teachers—loving, nurturing, and rigorously trained in child development—who create peaceful, supportive, and safe environments for our youngest children. In these spaces, a child’s natural passion for wonder, curiosity, exploration, and discovery comes alive.
A Montessori classroom for toddlers safely supports your child’s drive to do things alone, developing confidence and a sense of competence. The environment is language-rich, with adults using proper nomenclature rather than baby talk so that the children are exposed to and develop a broad vocabulary. Adults also support toddlers in communicating with each other. A range of books allows children to explore on their own or read aloud with an adult. In this learning environment, children work independently, observe others, explore freely, and express their curiosity and creativity. A self-care area fosters toilet awareness and independence in maintaining personal hygiene (such as learning how to wipe one’s nose and wash hands independently). A sleeping area with individual floor beds/mats that allows toddlers to exercise autonomy in preparing for rest and allows them to get up independently once rested. There is also an area for gross motor activities to help children coordinate their movements, and low tables that enable them to help prepare, serve, eat, and clean up their snacks and meals. We will be with your child as she works with Montessori materials, enjoys arts and crafts, joins circle time, learns to serve herself snack and plays with other toddlers on the playground. This program will open a door to making friends, find like-minded parents and toddlers for play dates, and learn much about child development, Montessori theory and practice.

Children’s House- 3-6year olds
PreK-1st grade- The Montessori primary classroom is a "living room" for children. Children choose their work from among the self-correcting materials displayed on open shelves, and they work in specific work areas. Over a period of time, the children develop into a "normalized community," working with high concentration and few interruptions. Normalization is the process whereby a child moves from being undisciplined to self-disciplined, from disordered to ordered, from distracted to focused, through work in the environment. The process occurs through repeated work with materials that captivate the child's attention. For some children this inner change may take place quite suddenly, leading to deep concentration. In the Montessori preschool, academic competency is a means to an end, and the manipulatives are viewed as "materials for development." In a Montessori Early Childhood classroom, highly trained teachers create a customized environment crafted to her unique abilities, interests, and learning style. This approach to learning is “hands-on.” Dr. Maria Montessori believed (and modern science has affirmed) that moving and learning are inseparable. In the prepared classroom, children work with specially designed manipulative materials that invite exploration and engage the senses in the process of learning. All learning activities support children in choosing meaningful and challenging work at their own interest and ability level. This child-directed engagement strengthens motivation, supports attention, and encourages responsibility.
Uninterrupted blocks of work time (typically 2+ hours in length) allow children to work at their own pace and fully immerse themselves in an activity without interruption. Your child’s work cycle involves selecting an activity, performing it for as long it remains interesting, cleaning up the activity and retuning it to the shelf, and making another work choice. This cycle respects individual variations in the learning process, facilitates the development of coordination, concentration, independence, and a sense of order, while facilitating your child’s assimilation of information.
